Fela Sowande: Obangiji
Jonathan Thomas Madden, organ. Originally streamed as part of the 2021 Upstate New York Synod - ELCA Assembly. Fela Sowande's music often combines musical elements from the Western European tradition with strong influences from the folk music of his home country of Nigeria (as well as other parts of Africa). This piece, "Obangiji" is centered around a Nigerian folk song by the same name. "Obangiji" translates to "God Almighty" in the West African Yoruba language.
